NEW LSAC REEVE AND DEPUTY REEVE APPOINTED

Since the LSAC Web Site still has not updated the new Councillors information, LSARA would like to welcome the new Council and Congratulations to the new "REEVE" (not mayor) Joe Blakeman and Deputy Reeve Nick Gelych.

Yesterday was the first LSAC Meeting for the new Council at which the October 11 2017 LSAC Council Minutes were approved. Today those Minutes are posted.  This is a process that in the past has taken up to six weeks to accomplish!  The timely posting of these minutes are one of many requests that LSARA has asked for from our Previous Council and Administration.

The content in those minutes however are still extremely disturbing as it was in the past.

In the Oct 11 Meeting 2 not 1 previous minutes were approved. September 28 2017 Council Meeting and October 4 2017 Planning Meeting.  Were the minutes so complicated that they require extra time to type out the details of the minutes?  We don't think so.

Did they run out of time at the past meetings?  We don't think so.

  • September 28 Council Meeting Mayor Hegy called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and adjourned the meeting at 11:12 a.m. 1 hr 42 min
  • October 4  Planning Meeting Mayor Hegy called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and adjourned the meeting at 10:06 a.m.!!!  36 min
  • October 11 Council Meeting Mayor Hegy called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. adjourned the meeting at 10:36 a.m !!! 1 hr 6 min
Yes people, Mayor Hegy called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and adjourned the meeting at 10:36 a.m. !!!  One whole whopping one hour and six minutes folks!!!

Well what did they accomplish in that time, 1 hr 6 min?  Among other items we found this to be again extremely disturbing.
  • 615-17 Bylaw #29-2017 Procedure Bylaw - 1 st Reading Mr. Giebelhaus – that Bylaw #2-2017, for the purpose of regulating procedure and conduct of Council Committee meetings, be given 1st reading. Carried.
  • 616-17 Bylaw #29-2017 - 2 nd Reading Mr. Bohnet – that Bylaw #29-2017 be given 2nd reading. Carried.
  • 617-17 Bylaw #29-2017 - unanimous consent Mr. Olsvik – that upon unanimous consent of those Councillors present, Bylaw #29-2017, be presented for 3rd and final reading. Carried.
  • 618-17 Bylaw #29-2017 - 3 rd Reading Mr. Borle – that Bylaw #29-2017 be given 3rd reading. Carried.
  • 619-17 Policy #152-4 Release of Agenda Information Mr. Olsvik – that County Council approve amended Policy #152-4 and the revised policy be implemented into the Policy Handbook. Carried.
Why is this disturbing?  Do you know what this Bylaw means?  We sure don't!  How could anyone know if no information in regards to what they are talking about is provided in the minutes.  This is another issue of these minutes and one of many requests that LSARA has asked for from our Previous Council and Administration to correct.

We do know that the public should of been informed of what this Bylaw means and why it was necessary to push it through in one meeting just prior to the election.

To end this post on a positive note we do appreciate the timely release of the October 11th minutes!  Now if we can only increase the amount of information in those minutes so the public can actually understand what is being discussed.  We also expect that the future Council Meetings will take more than "One Hour and six minutes" to accomplish what needs to be done in these meetings in order for our County to get back on track.

  1. One wonders. Before the election almost everyone wanted change. After the election we have three new faces, 1 by acclamation, 2 incumbents and 1 who served previously. So much for change. That is on the electorates shoulders.

  2. Is having Mr. Blakeman as the reeve a move in the right direction? He was part of the council that was ran out because of the back door push for snow mobile trails. Are we going in circles?
