LSARA Welcomes the New Council

LSARA Welcomes the New CounciL

The last four years have seen many changes in the County of Lac Ste Anne. Many of them have been changes the Ratepayers wanted in more consultation opportunities. Some of those issues were the New Administration Building, introduction of utility based Landfill fees, proposed Land Use Bylaw changes, RV proposed bylaws, loss of two Councillors with no by elections.

We also had boundary changes with no representation in Divisions 4 and 5. Complete erosion of relationships with Hamlets, Villages and Towns. Fire mutual aid agreements and contract losses. Three petitions that were ignored.

That is really just the surface of what the last term brought the residents of LSAC. Last night the Ratepayers spoke. The East end of the County saw two new elected Councillors for Division 2 and 3. The incumbent for Division one was acclaimed. Of 7 council, 4 are new.

There is terrific opportunity here to 'start over'. It's interesting to note that the total amount of votes in the county is pretty equal in the 6 Divisions. What is even more interesting is that the number that voted, is very close to the numbers that signed the petition, 2543 to the Minister requesting an inquiry. The petitions that council and administration ignored.

Today is a new term beginning. We have to give the new council an opportunity to acclimate to one another and do understand the challenges that face us as a County.

LSARA congratulates and welcomes the new council and looks forward to working with you!
