Rights of the Ratepayers of LSAC Are Being Denied

Rights of the Ratepayers of LSAC Are Being Denied

Yesterday LSARA posted regarding how the Rights of the Ratepayers of LSAC were being denied.  That the two Peace Officers who showed up at the Hillcrest Land Transfer Station, under order from their Supervisor, were sent to remove the two peaceful, law abiding Ratepayer Representatives.

Yesterday we told you they were watching our Facebook Pages to see if we would continue to announce locations where we would be located for you to have the opportunity to review the petitions with us.  Then you would be able to choose whether or not you wish to sign.  There were folks yesterday that had no landfill items, just came to sign.

Fast forward to this morning. LSARA, as promised had one of our members locate at the Onoway Transfer Station that is just off  777 to the North of Onoway. Shortly after he arrived (10:15 ish) and began collecting signatures, another Peace Officer appeared.  He was instructed once again to remove the Ratepayer.

The Ratepayer that was looking to peacefully collect signatures, not obstructing anyone, simply asking folks if they wish to sign.  I received a call from that Ratepayer to let me know that LSARA and indeed YOUR rights were being infringed upon.  We met with the Ratepayer and then went to the transfer station to meet with the Constable.

What a terrible position Administration and indeed Council has put these law enforcement folks in.  I introduced myself as the President of LSARA, the group responsible for enacting the petitions.  I asked what bylaw we were in contravention of.  There isn’t one.  I asked for the registered complaint and the supporting documentation of registered complaints.  He wasn’t able to provide either.  I requested if there was to be a ticket issued that it be issued to me.  Can’t issue one as there is no “ticketable” offence.  Then the real deal.... they received an email with the direction that we are not to organize or gather to conduct a petition on County property.  I contacted the RCMP and asked for direction.  The only thing he could tell me was that if it’s County Land the County can likely decide and then it can be challenged in court.  We don’t have time for that challenge as the petition is due on Monday.  Municipal Affairs weighed in on this very topic a couple of days ago in a phone call with the same Ratepayer that was asked to cease petition activity.  They told him we have the right to collect signatures as long as we are not disruptive.

I called the Division 1 Councillor.  He told me they ALL received an email saying that the Peace Officers were directed to stop us from collecting signatures at the landfills and that it is complaint based.  I reminded the Councillor that Administration tried exactly this same tactic the last petition and they soon quit when we asked for supporting documentation.

Last time they didn’t send out the Calvary.  We know that LSARA can mobilize many people to go to the landfill and cause unrest.  That is not who we are.  We left peacefully explaining to the Constable that the action of Administration and Council would mobilize the Ratepayers in another fashion.  One that would be much less desirable for both Council and Administration.

Fast forward a couple of hours and the picture above tells a thousand tales..... three Peace Officers sitting at that same landfill.  At whose direction?  We have so much crime in the County and the efforts of our Peace officers are being directed to perform traffic control at an auction held on Administrations land.  They are being directed to stop people from collecting signatures at the landfill transfer stations.

We are organized as a unit and have no intention of stopping.  A few things we ask for from you, the Ratepayer.  Share this post. Sign the two petitions asking to exercise your right to vote on corporations and borrowing.  Sign up for a membership.  Tell your friends and family.

SHOW UP AT COUNCIL CHAMBERS MAY 1st at 9:30 to let them know your displeasure. Sturgeon County packed chambers and they STOPPED Council from a huge borrowing bylaw.  They stood up for themselves.  You have to be registered to speak at the two hearings by April 30, 2019.  If you can’t speak, truly just the mere presence of a few hundred people in chambers should be a wake up.

LET LSARA HELP YOU SIGN THE PETITION

  1. These same 3 peace officers were sitting at the Rich Valley transfer station as a serious MVC claimed the life of a local FF and they did not respond from less than 5 miles away to assist other emergency services. Time to get our Councilors priorities straight.

  2. THE COUNTY OBSTRUCT OUR DEMOCRATIC RIGHT TO PARTITION and a public hearing. WHAT ARE THEY AFRAID OF? Why the secrecy?
This council is getting out of hand, our residents must wake up. The consequences if these bylaws passes unopposed/unscrutinized/unexplained could be devastating for the county tax payers as the liabilities are ours. WHY do they oppose a public hearing?
