LSARA 2ND ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Another Successful Annual General Meeting

LSARA hosted its second Annual General Meeting last night with approximately 60 Ratepayers in attendance. Thank you to those who had an opportunity to join us!

We conducted a number of business items such as a review of the 2017 AGM along with the financial information for review and a motion to accept as read.

We discussed the items that we have supplied some recent information on in our blogpost to ensure that we share with those that maybe don’t have access to Facebook. Correspondence we have undertaken with the County and their responses to items such as the current state of a policy for disposition of assets. Some additional items we have undertaken communication with the Council and Administration some of which we have received and communicated the response.

  • The Sangudo Speedway, what is the fate of this asset?
  • We asked about outside contracts for administrative duties that we currently pay.
  • We asked for costs on reports such as the Farmer and Associate Report
  • LSARA inquired about the deficiencies in the New Administration Building. Who is in charge of managing them. With the recent payout, substantial completion and lien removed from the building, what does that mean?
  • The pending sale of the Old Administration Building
  • The motion from November 2016 that identified to obtain pricing to demolish the old Administration building.
  • Administration CAO contract
  • FOIP Requests and what stage we are at with them
  • Land Use Bylaws – current state which includes the RV bylaw discussion that took place in 2017
  • Wage increases
  • Petitions and the Minister of Municipal Affairs – the latest response and what our action plan is.
  • Solid waste utility
  • Minutes and how they are being recorded
  • Agenda’s how they are not available until a day or two prior to County meetings
  • Budget - not completed
  • Election of 2017 and the platforms of the elected officials

So as you can see, we covered a lot of ground at the meeting and provided a great deal of information. The last item on the agenda was to give everyone that wanted to speak an opportunity to ask questions or provide feedback. A very positive meeting for all that attended.

LSARA received a number of donations at the meeting as we are a registered society and are able to provide a receipt. Many of our members felt that since we currently do not have a membership fee, that they would make a donation. All the funds raised are used for meetings venues, stationary supplies which may include posters that we have recycled to use, mailings, banking fees etc. We have donated our own supplies when it comes to printing off documents to share for our meetings etc.

The next meeting has not yet been set until a schedule for all new directors and executive can be established.

We cannot say it enough times how very important it is for the Association, LSARA to continue to grow and represent you, the Ratepayers. A few areas that we could still use some assistance:

1) Assistance with research and writing of articles – LSARA does not publish on speculation or rumor. IF we have not verified it, we do not print it.

2) Attendance at council meetings – if you have the time to attend a council meeting, please do and send us your report after the meeting. The minutes don’t always tell the story of what transpired.

3) Grant funding research and application

4) Minutes scrutinizer – review the minutes as they are posted and provide feedback. Are there items that we should be addressing?

5) Recruiters for membership – People that can approach their neighbors, friends and families to join our organization. We are only as strong as the membership.
